Detoxification Programs
The first step is the hardest one to take – picking up the phone or accepting the gift of treatment. Once the decision to give life free of addictive drugs a try, everything can get easier. The initial drug detoxification should be managed carefully to provide safety and support as a reward for the courage to change.
At The Camp, during the admissions process, there will be a thorough screening to analyze how acute the chemical dependency is. Often, the first step on the road to recovery may be to begin a medically assisted drug or alcohol detoxification process.
The primary goal of detoxification is physical stabilization and comfort under the supervision of an expert clinical staff. Treatment will be monitored by our nurses and addiction counselors. Medication may be necessary to help ease the withdrawal symptoms associated with certain drug or alcohol use. A thorough assessment will determine the necessity of a detox program.
Some patients may experience physical withdrawal symptoms as their body detoxifies from the alcohol or drugs they have been taking. Withdrawal is a trying physical and emotional process that may make the patients’ first few days in treatment challenging. The key is to “meet the patient where they are,” and quickly encourage them to continue their recovery by educating them about the disease of addiction, what they are going through, and the immediate health and emotional benefits of abstinence from their drug of choice.
